Whenever possible, monthly programs feature well-known teachers who address a topic of general interest to all members. In most cases, the teacher will conduct workshops on the Friday and Saturday following the regular meeting. These workshops are subsidized by the guild and are open to all members on a first come, first served basis. Workshops are open to members and cost $40. If workshops do not fill, they are open to non-members for an additional fee. To sign up for a workshop or to see a sample of a workshop project, stop by the workshop table before a meeting or contact the workshop chairperson.Workshops are usually held in the Youth Assembly Room on the third floor at Highland United Methodist Church located on the corner of Ridge Rd and Lake Boone Trail. Follow the sidewalk from the parking lot, past the multipurpose room and turn right below the stairs and go through the double glass doors. Turn right toward the multipurpose room to the elevator and go to the third floor. Turn right off the elevator and head to the room in front of you. Classes start at 9 and end at 3:30. Pack a lunch. If you would like to host one of our out-of-town speakers, please contact the chairperson.

Friday, OCTOBER 19- Designing circular borders It’s not magic! It’s easy, using simple drafting techniques, with Gail’s sure fire, no “scary math words” teaching style. We will learn to draft and piece circular flying geese, spirals, big n’ little, and more. We will stitch a variety of samples in class.
Saturday, OCTOBER 20- The goose is loose! piecing free-form shapes This is Gail’s most popular class, by far! It introduces the student to original design in free-form shapes with emphasis on the flying goose design. Learn the drafting and piecing techniques for flying geese in the round, loose curves, or swirls. It is so easy to do; students are often surprised at the simplicity of the technique, taught with no scary math words! These designs can be simply designed and easily stitched using paper piecing techniques.

Friday, November 16- Precision pieced quilts Have you wanted to try foundation piecing with a larger project? Requiring no templates, it is readily adaptable to almost any pattern, traditional or innovative. After reviewing the basics of foundation piecing, you will begin a four-block wall hanging in your choice of several different patterns, each using a foundation for stability and precision, but with different block divisions, different skill levels, and different kinds of techniques. Patterns and foundations for all the projects are supplied.
Saturday, November 17- Pineapples Plus This graphic design has so many possibilities, it is hard to know where to start, but we do begin at the beginning with one classic Pineapple block, pieced on a vellum foundation. Then on to whatever design you fancy. The choices are two kinds of off-center patterns, a Flying Geese pattern, or playing with the classic block to create new designs. Pineapples are so versatile, there is always one more just waiting to be made.
